ALEXANDRIA, VA- Alexandria Delegate Elizabeth Bennett-Parker has won the Democratic firehouse primary for Virginia’s 39th Senate District, positioning her to succeed longtime state senator Adam Ebbin, who is vacating the seat.

Bennett-Parker is a well-known figure in Alexandria civic life with a long record of public service. She currently represents the 5th District in the Virginia House of Delegates and previously served on Alexandria City Council, including a term as vice mayor. Her career has been defined by a hands-on, community-first approach and a deep understanding of how state policy decisions affect cities, schools, and families at the local level.

In addition to her legislative work, Bennett-Parker has held leadership roles on several regional boards, including transportation-related positions that reflect Alexandria’s close ties to Northern Virginia and the greater Washington region. In Richmond, her priorities have focused on issues that directly touch everyday life, including public education, childcare access, housing affordability, and transportation.

Bennett-Parker has also been widely recognized for balancing public service with family life. She is one of the few members of the Virginia General Assembly to give birth while serving in office, an experience she has cited as shaping her advocacy for working parents, caregivers, and family-friendly policies.

The 39th District, which includes much of Alexandria and surrounding communities, was long represented by Sen. Ebbin, one of the General Assembly’s most senior and influential lawmakers. Bennett-Parker’s win represents both continuity and transition, with a deeply rooted Alexandria leader stepping forward to carry the district’s priorities to the Virginia Senate.

A special election will be held on February 10, when voters will make the final decision on who will represent the 39th District in the Virginia Senate.
