Alexandria After Work Concert features Leigh Beamer

Join us in Old Town Alexandria each second Friday of the month for a concert sponsored by The Folklore Society of Greater Washington (FSGW) and The Office of Historic Alexandria. Locations rotate between Lloyd House (220 North Washington Street), and the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum (201 South Washington Street).

Friday, January 11, 2019, at the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum features Americana music by Leigh Beamer. Born and raised in Wytheville, Virginia, Leigh is one of the leading young vocalists in Southwest Virginia and a skilled interpreter of the old-time music of Appalachia. As a teenager, Leigh was introduced to Appalachian music by local musician, Sam Gleaves, and over the years took up playing the clawhammer banjo and the fiddle. Currently, Leigh is a senior at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia, where she longs to get back to the mountains of her home.

This month’s concert will be held at The Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, 201 South Washington Street. Take the free trolley that runs every 15 minutes from the King Street Metro station!

This concert runs from 6-8 p.m. Great music with a suggested donation for the musicians. No ticket required – show up and enjoy the music! Beer and wine for sale; light refreshments available as well.

Next month’s concert on Friday, February 8 features Piedmont blues by The Alligator Pears at the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum.
