The Club Burgers & Sandwiches: Traditional American Fare with a bit of Asian Fusion

Many in the West End have been waiting with bated breath for the opening of the neighborhood’s newest restaurant – The Club: Burgers & Sandwiches. The Club sports a relaxing and friendly atmosphere with the cuisine to match. The partners Steven and Samantha opened The Club a little over two months ago in Van Dorn Plaza at 261 S. Van Dorn Street. Samantha stated that a major concept for the opening of The Club was to offer an alternative to the chain burger fast food restaurants and places like Jimmy Johns and others.

The Club offers a warm and inviting community feel with spacious seating areas and wood trim decor that uniquely pairs with the main attraction, the food. The partners wanted to offer something a bit different from your traditional sandwich shop and took an interesting take on the burger, serving up a Korean style barbeque burger with all the fixing. Additionally, The Club pays homage to the various New York City deli’s that I grew up in with its “New Yorker” burger with its corned beef, Swiss cheese and coleslaw. They’ve also introduced appropriately “the Virginian” with its sliced ham, Swiss cheese, onion, and anything else you desire.

According to Samantha, the West End community supported the opening of the new restaurant. “People have welcomed us with open arms,” she said. They settled on opening the flagship shop in Alexandria because of the

availability of space in the City and the proximity to D.C. “Alexandrians should not have to travel to D.C. to enjoy eclectic and new food options, they should be able to enjoy that right here at home,” she highlighted.

With two full months of operations under the belt, The Club will continue to grow and improve the menu options as well as instituting home delivery. Samantha indicated that although they have not instituted food delivery yet, they are currently reviewing options to offer this service to area residents in the future.
