City of Alexandria and Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority Host Ramsey Homes Open House and Tours

The Ramsey Homes redevelopment project is expected to cost about $17.5 million, said ARHA chief executive Roy Priest, almost entirely paid for with federal money.

You can join an Open House and exploratory deconstruction tour as the City and Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) staff explore the innovative WWII construction technology used to build Ramsey Homes. You can see it prior to the demolition of these buildings and learn more about the history of these resources. The Open House and tours will be held on February 9 & 10, 2018; 2:00pm – 4:00pm. Check-in at the Alexandria Black History Museum at 902 Wythe Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.

The four buildings at Ramsey Homes, originally constructed in a modernist design and built for African-American defense workers, are early examples of the use of precast “Fabcrete” concrete panels.

The Open House and tours are being held as part of ongoing documentation and preservation efforts as part of the Section 106 process related to the redevelopment of the Ramsey Homes. For questions please contact [email protected]. More information can be found at this link.
