Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Unveils 2026 Legislative Agenda

By Maria Ciarrocchi
Alexandria, VA – The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce has officially released the 2026 Legislative Agenda—its most comprehensive advocacy roadmap of the year. Developed with direct input from Chamber members, the agenda reflects the collective voice and priorities of Alexandria’s business community.
Key priorities include making Alexandria more business-friendly and supporting long-term economic growth through major development projects and a broader, more diverse commercial tax base. Areas like Potomac Yard are central to this strategy, along with efforts to repurpose vacant office spaces into productive community assets.
Workforce development is also at the forefront. The Chamber is advocating for stronger career-readiness programs in local schools and expanded reskilling opportunities for displaced workers to better align with the demands of today’s job market.
To support small businesses, the agenda calls for streamlined permitting, zoning, and licensing processes. The goal: reduce red tape and make it easier for entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. The Chamber is also encouraging deeper collaboration with City officials to enhance resources for the local business community.
Recognizing the direct link between economic vitality and quality of life, the Chamber is pushing for greater investment in affordable housing, accessible childcare, and reliable multimodal transportation—including during off-peak hours—to better support Alexandria’s evolving workforce needs.
