Photos: Carpenter’s Shelter Launches New Heights Campaign

The nonprofit needs $2 million to serve Alexandria's homeless.

Alexandria, VA – The redevelopment of Alexandria’s new Carpenter’s Shelter development opened its doors to the public on Thursday. The nonprofit serving Alexandria’s homeless needs $2 million in order to finish the New Heights project, which will include 97 affordable housing units, community playground, state-of-the-art clinic and a winter shelter for the chronically homeless.

“There is great power in what we are doing, and there is an amazing thing that we generate when we work together, which is new fresh starts for people who have had everything crumble, and that’s ultimately why we do this,” Carpenter’s Shelter Executive Director Shannon Stene said at a reception at Purple Strategies on Thursday.

More than $1 million has been raised for New Heights, located at 930 N. Henry St. in Old Town. Construction is slated to end next year on the project.
