Happening Tomorrow: Drop Off Food & Winter Coats at Alexandria’s 18th Annual “Alexandrians Have Heart” Drive

Former Councilman Frank Fannon urges residents to give Saturday as local food banks and shelters face rising winter demand.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Poster for the 18th Annual Alexandria Have a Heart Clothes Drive hosted by Frank FannonAlexandria residents have a chance tomorrow to make an immediate difference for neighbors in need.

Former Alexandria City Councilman Frank Fannon will host the 18th annual Alexandrians Have Heart food and clothing drive on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot at 225 S. Henry St., at the intersection of Duke and Henry streets.

The drive takes place rain or shine — and organizers say donations are urgently needed.

Volunteers will collect canned food, dry goods, coats, gloves, hats, and other gently used winter clothing to benefit three frontline nonprofit organizations: ALIVE! Food Bank, Christ House, and Carpenter’s Shelter. All three continue to face increased demand during the winter months, when colder temperatures and higher utility costs strain already tight household budgets.

“Stocks of food and clothing are desperately needed,” organizers said this week, noting that the annual Valentine’s weekend drive has become a longstanding Alexandria tradition focused on helping vulnerable residents.

Last year’s event generated significant donations for local families — but with continued economic pressures and seasonal need, organizers say the community’s support is more important than ever.

The drive is organized by Friends of Fannon and is now in its 18th year, reinforcing its simple mission: ensure Alexandria residents have access to food and warm clothing during the coldest months of the year.

Residents are encouraged to stop by Saturday morning or early afternoon with donations. Volunteers will be on hand to assist drivers and accept contributions.

For more information, contact Frank Fannon at [email protected] or 703-861-1864.

Tomorrow’s message is straightforward: If you have extra food in your pantry or a warm coat in your closet, someone in Alexandria can use it.
