Sailors help maintain America’s advantage at sea. This means they do not always get to celebrate holidays with their loved ones. An Alexandria, Virginia native serving in the United States Navy will celebrate the holidays with her fellow sailors aboard USS Harry Truman.

“Holidays are the time for family,” said Chief Petty Officer Briana McDowell. “It’s usually the slower period and the time designated for leave. My favorite holiday memory is the numerous times in which others came together to make those who could not go home feel like family.”

McDowell wants family back home to know they are missed this holiday season.

“Happy holidays,” said McDowell. “I love you!”

As a member of the U.S. Navy, McDowell, as well as other sailors, know they are a part of a tradition providing unforgettable experiences through leadership development, world affairs and humanitarian assistance.

“Serving in the Navy means being a part of something bigger then myself,” added McDowell.
