ALEXANDRIA, VA – A major automotive shift could be headed straight for Alexandria.

Porsche Arlington is planning a significant relocation that would bring a massive new showroom and service hub to the West, West End of Alexandria (Fairfax County), marking one of the largest single-site auto investments in the region in recent years.

According to filings first reported by the Washington Business Journal, New Country Motor Car Group has submitted plans to build a roughly 67,000-square-foot Porsche dealership on the former Rosenthal Chevrolet property at 6500 Little River Turnpike, Alexandria, VA 22312. If approved, the dealership would relocate from its longtime home at 3100 Richmond Highway and rebrand as Porsche Alexandria.

A Bigger, Modern Porsche Footprint

The proposed development would replace the former Chevrolet site—historically about 43,000 square feet—with a significantly larger, modern facility designed to house both sales and service operations under one roof.

That kind of scale reflects a broader shift in the auto industry, where luxury brands like Porsche are investing in “experience-driven” showrooms. These newer facilities often include expanded service bays, delivery lounges, and enhanced customer amenities, especially as electric and hybrid vehicles require different servicing infrastructure.

Moving Off Richmond Highway

For years, Porsche Arlington has operated along Richmond Highway, serving as a regional hub for sales and service. The proposed move would shift that footprint north and closer to Alexandria’s established commercial corridors along Little River Turnpike.

While the relocation would bring new investment to the Turnpike corridor, it also raises questions about the future of the current Richmond Highway site—an area already undergoing significant redevelopment and long-term planning.

Still Early in the Process

The project remains in its early stages and will require site-plan approvals, permits, and likely public review before any construction begins. No timeline has been announced, and details such as job creation or construction start dates have not yet been released.

If the proposal moves forward, nearby residents—particularly those in Fairfax County at 6500 Little River Turnpike, which carries an Alexandria mailing address but lies outside city limits—can expect community meetings and opportunities for public input during the planning process.

What It Could Mean for Alexandria

For now, the plan exists on paper—but it signals something bigger: continued interest from major brands in planting deeper roots in Alexandria.

A high-end dealership of this size would bring new economic activity, increased visibility, and potentially more traffic to the corridor. It also reflects a broader trend of investment shifting toward modernized, centralized facilities designed for the next generation of vehicles and buyers.

As approvals move forward, we’ll be watching closely—tracking timelines, community feedback, and what this could mean for both Little River Turnpike and Richmond Highway’s next chapter.

If the proposal advances, Alexandria residents can expect community meetings and opportunities for public input as part of the city’s planning process.

Y’all do realize 6500 Little River Turnpike is in Fairfax County, right? And thus the city’s planning process is irrelevant?

Alternate headline: Porsche Dealership moves from Not Alexandria to Not Alexandria.
