Alexandria School Board’s Jacinta Greene Running for City Council

ALEXANDRIA, VA-Alexandria City School Board member Jacinta Greene announced this morning (Feb. 13) that she is running for City Council. She already has the endorsements of retired Sheriff Dana Lawhorne, Sheriff Sean Casey, and Clerk of Court Greg Parks.

“As a native Virginian and 21 year resident of Alexandria, I am excited to announce my candidacy for City Council. Alexandria is at a crossroads,  we face tough decisions on our schools, our city’s affordability, and the impact of climate change.” said Greene in a statement, “We need to elect experienced and principled leaders to ensure we forge the right path forward.  I would be honored if Alexandrians trusted me to be one of those leaders.”

She is passionate about advocating for underserved and historically marginalized communities. This led to her appointment on the Alexandria Commission for Women, where she served as First Vice Chair for a decade.

She is a two-term member of the School Board, and at one time, served as Vice Chair. Greene sits on the Board of Directors for the Virginia School Boards Association, where she is the  Northeastern Region Chair.

She values volunteerism, giving her time to serve as the coordinator for the Ruby Tucker Readers Council. This organization that gives underserved children in Alexandria a love of reading. She also serves on numerous other boards and committees dedicated to helping people around the DMV.

Greene works ful-time as an independent business consultant and corporate event planner.

The next election for Mayor and City Council is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
