ALEXANDRIA, VA – This morning (July 20) in an email to the MacArthur Elementary community, Principal Penny Hairston announced the appointment of Paul George as the school’s new assistant principal. He replaces Steven Geter, who has joined Arlington County Public Schools. He begins on July 28.
“I am very excited to add my star to the amazing constellation that is Douglas MacArthur Elementary, and I look forward to meeting and working with all students, staff, and families very soon,” George said.
Over a 30-year career, the dedicated educator has worked in Florida and Delaware. He came to Alexandria in 1996, working for the school system as a math teacher. He progressed to such positions as technology integration specialist and summer school principal.
George most recently worked at Hammond, where he supervised the Citywide Special Education Program. Under his leadership, the school was recognized by the Virginia Department of Education as the Most Improved School.
Wrote Hairston: “Mr. George cares passionately about every child’s success. He is committed to providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for students and staff and to doing whatever it takes to ensure that all students grow, achieve, and thrive.”
George earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Education from DeSales University. He also received a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies from The Catholic University of America and a Graduate Certificate in School Administration and Supervision from The Johns Hopkins University.
