Bollywood Masala in Alexandria Expanding to Waldorf After a Decade in La Plata

Bollywood Masala on King St. is moving its original locaton to Waldorf

Alexandria, VA  –  After serving loyal customers in La Plata for more than a decade, Bollywood Masala at 211 King St. in Alexandria is preparing for a major new chapter as the beloved Indian restaurant relocates from La Plata to Waldorf.

The restaurant, known for its flavorful curries, tandoori specialties, and warm hospitality, will move operations to a new location at 3804 Crain Highway while continuing to serve guests throughout the transition. For longtime fans, that means the restaurant’s signature dishes are not going anywhere — they are simply heading to a larger opportunity.

Owners Rajat Malhotra and Punita Malhotra said the move was not originally part of their plans. Lease-related challenges at the La Plata location ultimately pushed the couple to consider other options, but they are embracing the relocation as a chance to evolve and expand the business.

The upcoming Waldorf restaurant will feature many of the same dishes that earned Bollywood Masala a devoted following over the years in both La Plata and Old Town Alexandria. However, the Malhotras are also planning to broaden the menu and introduce additional offerings as part of the new concept.

For local diners, the relocation reflects the restaurant’s continued growth and popularity in Southern Maryland’s increasingly diverse dining scene. Bollywood Masala has become known not only for traditional Indian cuisine, but also for creating an inviting atmosphere where guests feel welcomed like family.

For the Malhotras, the relocation is more than just a change of address. It represents resilience, reinvention, and the opportunity to continue sharing authentic Indian flavors with the Southern Maryland community for years to come.
