ALEXANDRIA, VA — Eight volunteers and friends from Alexandria Women for Good spent the morning giving back at St. Martin de Porres Senior Center, rolling up their sleeves to refresh and beautify the center’s outdoor garden spaces.

From mulching and planting to weeding and general clean-up, the group worked together to create a more welcoming and peaceful environment for the seniors who visit the center each day.

Supporting a Space for Connection and Wellness

The St. Martin de Porres Senior Center, a program of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington, provides a wide range of services designed to prevent isolation and promote wellness, happiness, and independence among older adults in Alexandria.

The center offers congregate meals, transportation, and a variety of health, exercise, social, recreational, educational, and entertainment activities, along with field trips. There is no fee to participate, and services are available to Alexandria residents age 60 and older who are living independently.

Small Acts, Meaningful Impact

The volunteer effort served as a reminder that small acts of service — when done together — can make a lasting impact. By improving the garden spaces, Alexandria Women for Good helped enhance a place that brings joy, peace, and connection to many in the community.

The group expressed gratitude to everyone who participated, noting that the morning’s success was made possible by the dedication and teamwork of all involved.
