Second Annual Taste of Old Town North Will Celebrate Local Music, Restaurants, and the Arts on September 19

 

Alexandria, VA – Local musicians, restaurants, wellness demos, arts presentations and more will highlight the Second Annual Taste of Old Town North on Thursday, September 19 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. The Taste is a free event that will take place in Montgomery Park (901 N. Royal Street), in the Old Town North section of Alexandria which includes the Braddock East, Parker-Gray, and Canal District neighborhoods; businesses from all these neighborhoods will be represented at the Taste.

“I look forward to celebrating the history and art of Old Town North at the Second Annual Taste of Old Town North,” said Elizabeth Bennett-Parker, Vice Mayor for the City of Alexandria. “I invite residents across Alexandria to join us on September 19th for food, music, and community, and to learn more about hunger in our community from Hunger-Free Alexandria, Carpenter’s Shelter, and ALIVE! Family Assistance Program.”

Schedule

The schedule of events for the Second Annual Taste of Old Town North includes:

  • 4:00 – 4:45 PM: Wellness demos and sample yoga class.
  • 4:45 – 5:00 PM: Welcome from City of Alexandria Vice Mayor Elizabeth Bennett-Parker.
  • 5:00 – 7:30 PM: Tastings from local restaurants including A la Lucia, Lost Dog Café, T.J. Stone’s, Extra Perks, Thanida Thai, Yunnan on Potomac, and Café 44.
  • 5:00 – 8:00 PM: Music by Roots Blues with David Lang, Sally and The Mander, and Three Man Soul Machine.
  • Art in the Park, presented by the Art League School

“Old Town North is an exciting, and thriving community,” says Margaret Townsend, President of Old Town North Community Partnership and owner of River’s Edge Yoga on Montgomery Street. “The Taste of Old Town North is a wonderful opportunity for people of all ages, backgrounds, and interests to see what this unique part of Alexandria is all about. We welcome residents and visitors to the area.”

Farmers Market and Dog Park Open Too!

In addition, the weekly Thursday Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market will be operating at 901 North Royal Street, and the playground and dog park will be open throughout the Taste event. In recognition of local charities, information will be available on how they support the community; charities include ALIVE, Hunger Free Alexandria, Community Lodgings, Guest House and Carpenter’s Shelter.

The Second Annual Taste of Old Town North is presented by the Old Town North Community Partnership and the City of Alexandria Department of Parks, Cultural and Recreational Activities. The Taste is made possible by the generous support of MRE Properties, Edens Development, Carr Companies, Gables Old Town North, American Real Estate Partners and Canal Center, Trammell Crow Residential, Old Town North Alliance, The Zebra Press and our local small businesses, nonprofits and community members.
