Alexandria, VA – The George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee has announced that the Grand Marshals of the 2024 George Washington Birthday Parade on February 19, 2024, will be The Living Legends of Alexandria, a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and chronicling individuals who have made significant contributions to the quality of life in Alexandria.

The theme of the Parade will be “George Washington: Alexandria’s Original Living Legend.” The event traditionally attracts tens of thousands of spectators to Old Town Alexandria to cheer on over 1,500 diverse participants marching in the oldest and largest parade of its kind in the country. It will return to its historic route east of Washington Street in 2024.

“It’s fitting that in the year of Alexandria’s 275th Anniversary, the 2024 Parade honors not only George Washington’s close connection to his adopted hometown but also the remarkable individuals whose vision and hard work over the years have helped make Alexandria the unique and vibrant community it is today,” says Parade Committee Chair Sue Johnson.

“The Living Legends of Alexandria are proud to be asked and can’t wait for the parade,” says Living Legends Board President Mary Wadland.

“The parade is funded primarily through private support, and sponsorships and/or donations will go a long way to ensure that this celebration of George Washington and Alexandria’s Living Legends is a resounding success,” adds Johnson.
