Coloring Books and Coffee a Big Success!

Juneteenth, or Black Independence Day, was marked this year in different ways around town, find out more about how the celebrations went in Alexandria!

Alexandria, VA- Juneteenth, or Black Independence Day, was marked this year in different ways around town, but one interesting celebration for adults and kids happened when three Alexandria organizations collaborated for a fun an interactive morning of reading, art and conversation about the history and significance of June 19.

Explanation Kids, Spitfire Club, and The Wise Family Counseling came together for a free event with members of the Alexandria School Board to tackle hard topics including race and racism. Students were encouraged to grab their coloring materials and #drawjuneteenth, expressing how they felt about what they had learned about the story of freedom.
