40 Bikes Surprise 40 Kids plus the ACPS Staff that Built Them

ALEXANDRIA–Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) principals, assistant principals and administrators built 40 bicycles for local children as part of a team building exercise at their August Leadership Institute.

What they did now know was that 40 children from Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA) would be bursting through the doors to collect their new bikes. All 40 of the children aged between 6 and 10 chose their brand new Raleigh/Diamondback bicycles, complete with helmets and bike locks in person.

After the session, the bikes were tuned up by experts to ensure they were safe and then delivered to ARHA by ACPS staff. As many of the children receiving the bikes had never owned a bike before or had many opportunities to ride one, ACPS will be offering free road safety training to all of the young recipients in September.

The training was hailed by staff as the perfect reminder that what they do every day impacts children and their future.
