ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria Social Security office at 5510 Cherokee Avenue, Suite 200 will be closed fom July 11 to 19 for renovations. It will reopen Tuesday, July 19.

Customers needing in-office service may visit the Social Security offices located at:

1300 D Street SW, Washington, DC
9500 Center Street, Manassas, VA
10800 Parkridge Boulevard, Suite 100, Reston, VA

Social Security office hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The agency strongly encourages people, who can, to use its online services at www.socialsecurity.gov, call on the phone, and schedule appointments in advance rather than walking in without an appointment. Phone appointments can save people a trip to a busy office.

Customers who walk in without appointments may encounter delays and longer waits at offices. Be aware that Social Security offices tend to be the busiest first thing in the morning, early in the week, and during the early part of the month, so people may want to plan to visit at other times.

Given that many of the people the agency serves have health vulnerabilities, and consistent with union agreements, the agency continues to require certain safety measures including masking, physical distancing, and self-health checks for COVID-19 symptoms. Masks will be provided to the public and employees if they need them.

Throughout the pandemic, millions of people have used the agency’s secure and convenient online services and received help by phone. People who have access to the internet should first try online services before calling or visiting an office.
