Living Legends of Alexandria is extremely pleased to announce its selections of Living Legends for 2018. The 2018 Living Legends were vetted from an array of nominations that were submitted by the public and received through Fall of last year. These community leaders shown below were chosen based on their having met one or both of two selection criteria as evidence of having improved the quality of life in the City of Alexandria, VA by having: (1) led the creation or redevelopment of something which wouldn’t have existed without their involvement; or (2) demonstrated substantial and sustained contributions over a significant period of time.

Charlie Euripides focused his time and efforts to support veterans organizations and provided employment and guidance to young immigrants.

Lori Morris is a founding member ACT’s board of directors and was involved in the creation of Spring2Action, and also committed significant resources to programs for Alexandria’s low-income children.

Ann and Rick Dorman applied their non-profit consulting and event planning expertise to revitalize First Night Alexandria beginning in 2001, resulting in the participation by thousands of visitors and hundreds of performers.

Sherry Wilson Brown’s selfless advocacy has brought local art to public spaces in leadership positions with, Alexandria Arts Forum, Alexandria Performing Arts Association, and MetroStage, the Alexandria Arts Festival, and led Agenda:Alexandria.

Gwendolyn Hubbard Lewis created and led programs that mentor middle school children and engages parents in their children’s education.

Jason Ellis founded a nonprofit that created a series of original musicals as an arts mechanism to educate, enrich and empower the lives of low-income youth.

Marion Moon creates educational and personal growth opportunities that have helped countless young underserved young people of Alexandria.

Florence King educates and guides low income residents of Alexandria on how to escape debt, regain credit, and develop financial literacy.

The public is invited to Living Legends’ 11th Annual Meet the Legends Reception on Thursday, March 15, 2018 being held at the Northern Virginia Community College’s new Center for Design, Media and the Arts building, at which time the 2018 Legends will be formally recognized and introduced to the public. Following a year-long exhibit in the Vola Lawson Lobby of City Hall, the photographic and written documentation of these (and all) Legends is transferred to the Office of Historic Alexandria, which takes possession of them as an archive for future generations.

We salute the 2018 distinguished Living Legends and thank them for their selfless contributions and service to the historical city of Alexandria, VA!
