ALEXANDRIA, VA-Onyx and Garnet – each around one year old and 40-45 pounds – both arrived at the AWLA as found animals on the same day. However, the organization didn’t immediately realize they had a bond or even knew each other. What ALWA did know was they were both very scared.

The Behavior Team immediately began working on confidence and trust building. While Garnet started coming out of her shell, Onyx didn’t even want to leave his kennel. The team decided to reintroduce them.

When Onyx saw Garnet, a switch flipped. He was so excited to see Garnet and be around her. In a matter of minutes, the two were running around together in the yard, playing, and loving life. It was incredibly heartwarming to see them reconnect and realize the bond they clearly share.

Onyx and Garnet snuggle together in their kennel, play together in the yard, and even share food and treats. They are both very friendly, social, and playful. Because they are truly “better together,” AWLA knows they need to find a home as a bonded pair. This makes finding a home a bit more difficult, but they want to give it a shot! Two is better than one, right?!
