ALEXANDRIA, VA – Twice a year, ParkFairfax residents Scott Knudsen and his wife Jennifer Pease throw a plant party and invite the whole DMV to come. For the first 12 years the giant sale was held in ParkFairfax, but three years ago the couple moved the event to the Church of St. Clement, at 1701 Quaker Lane.
Asked why he started the event 16 years ago when he was chair of the Woodlands and Landscape Committees in Parkfairfax, Knudsen said, “I was worried about non-native invasive plants infesting our woodlands in Parkfairfax. I wanted to bring native alternatives to my neighborhood to promote environment-friendly gardening.”
If you love gardening, and your yard, or even your balcony or sun-drenched kitchen window, you need to plan to pop in to the native plant sale happening Saturday, April 27 from 9 to 3. There will be over 10 vendors on site, some of whom have driven in from Maryland and Pennsylvania to bring their best perennials, shrubs, and trees for sun or shade.
