ALEXANDRIA, VA – Old Town accountant Sarah Locke says, “Summer has been my best friend since I met her as a puppy 11 years ago. We go everywhere together. We are attached at the hip.”

On January 8, the affable little dog who loves making friends and going on walks around Old Town was diagnosed with a cancerous bump on her tail. Before she could get to an oncologist scheduled later in the month, the bump ruptured and now requires emergency surgery.

Sarah Locke is a small business owner without pet insurance or ready cash to pay the veterinarian. Friends at her shared office space, ALX Community at 106 N. Lee Street suggested she try crowd sourcing. Four days ago, she set up a PayPal fund for Summer, and has so far raised $2085 of her $5000 goal.

“While I had a plan to save, and come up with the money, the timeline has moved up and I need help!” says emotional owner, Sarah.

“Any amount you can share will help. It all adds up. And any money that we do not need for her care we will donate to the Alexandria Animal Welfare League.”
