Alexandria, VA – Sometimes it’s the simplest things—a roll of paper towels, fresh bedding—that make a house feel like home.

On March 26, Alexandria Women for Good (AWFG) delivered laundry baskets filled with everyday essentials to women transitioning through the Friends of Guest House aftercare program. The residents, all formerly incarcerated, have completed a six-month residential program and are taking their next steps toward independent living.

Many arrive at this stage without basic household items. AWFG stepped in to help ease that transition—while also offering something just as important: connection.

“What made the visit especially meaningful was the chance to spend time together and offer encouragement,” said AWFG co-founder Laura Turner. “It’s a reminder that community support can make all the difference.”

Alexandria Women for Good is a local giving circle that gathers for social events and service projects, with members voting each quarter to support area nonprofits.
