Join us at the Alexandria History Museum at The Lyceum, 201 South Washington Street, for a free screening of the upcoming PBS documentary ‘Evolution of America: 1619 to Today.’ The screening will be Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. with a cash bar reception in the museum’s entrance hall beginning at 6:30 p.m.
‘Evolution of America: 1619 to Today’ explores the history and events of 1619 Virginia and how that decisive year affected the growth and development of America. The hour-long documentary uses appealing visuals, creative animation, original music, and insightful interviews with subject matter experts to illustrate the events in the Virginia colony that would profoundly influence the ongoing American narrative.
The documentary, produced by Cinebar Productions, is one of the legacy projects supported by the 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution. The 2019 Commemoration, American
Evolution, highlights events that occurred in Virginia in 1619 that continue to influence America today through featured programs, events and legacy projects like the documentary. The year 1619 was a pivotal year in the establishment of the first permanent English Colony in North America, the first representative legislative assembly in the New World, the arrival of the first recorded Africans to English North America, the recruitment of English Women in significant numbers, the first official English Thanksgiving in North America, and the entrepreneurial and innovative spirit of the Virginia colony.
