ALEXANDRIA, VA – If you live in Alexandria, you’ve probably heard of National Night Out. This year, it’s happening on Tuesday, Aug. 2 from 5 to 9 p.m. The event celebrates the collaboration of the community and Alexandria’s public safety agencies to promote a pertnership between police and the community.
The event helps to increase crime prevention awareness and generate support for programs that prevent criminal activity. It also sends a message to those seeking to commit criminal acts that Alexandria residents and law enforcement are working as a team to stop them.
“Our agency believes in community policing, and National Night Out gives us a chance to celebrate our success in working together to reduce crime and improve the quality of life throughout our city,” said Don Hayes, Alexandria Police Chief.

The event will vary by neighborhood. But residents are welcome to come outside and enjoy cookouts and block parties with police, firefighters, and city officials. It will feature the police K-9 Unit, Motorcycle Unit, Bike Patrol, Command Bus, and Crime Scene Mobile Lab.
