Bald Eagle Goes Rabbit Hunting in Downtown Arlington
Local Realtor Catches the Scene on Smartphone
ARLINGTON, VA – Arlington realtor Eli Tucker was walking with a friend on South Glebe Road near his home in Alcova Heights by Columbia Pike when his friend did a double take exclaiming he thought he’d just seen an eagle fly by with something in its talons.
“I didn’t see it at all,” said Tucker, “But a couple of minutes later we turned the corner and saw the eagle perched on the wall. After a few seconds, we realized it had a rabbit.”
Tucker immediately went for his smartphone to catch the uncanny shot. “My first thoughts were how big it was, and how fierce it looked. When we first started walking past it, it turned, and looked us directly in the eyes.”
Tucker caught the eagle’s sneer on video, long with a few stills. “We backed away and decided to watch it a bit longer. We finally decided to walk through and as we walked by, it took off, rabbit in talons, and soared low across the Bank of America parking lot. The wingspan had to have been five to six feet.”
Tucker went home and first showed the images to his five-year-old son who loved the pictures. “He’s been talking all about eagles lately so it was neat to share with him.”
“My father-in-law was the one who posted it in the Virginia Wildlife group on Facebook. My mom’s a long-time naturalist in Maryland and was really amazed by it. This is all so cool how much people are enjoying the photo!”
