Bishop Ireton Student David De Costa Earns Highest Honors in 2024 Naval Horizons National Contest

ALEXANDRIA, VA – David De Costa, Bishop Ireton Class of 2026, earned the highest honors in the 2024 Naval Horizons National Contest.

Naval Horizons is a STEM educational video series and essay contest that introduces students to the science and technology challenges facing the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.

The nationwide contest, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), engages high school and college students in cutting-edge STEM topics for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Students choose one of the STEM topics highlighted in the Naval Honors videos, conduct additional research on the subject, and compose their essay. The essays must be between 500-1,500 words total.

David’s award-winning submission focused on the innovative field of Autonomous Unmanned Systems technology in defense. In additional to a small cash prize, exceptional essays may be highlighted on a Naval STEM web page.
