Alexandria, VA – The space at 404 King St. is becoming Twosome Place, a bakery and café that originated in
South Korea. The company is a coffee and dessert chain. According to their website, “The brand message, DEAREST CAKE and ALWAYS COFFEE, articulates a warm friendship. By personifying coffee and cake to illustrate deep affection for the perfect pairing, the slogan encapsulates TWOSOME’s core philosophy that coffee and cake are inseparable partners that find their perfection in one another.”
Twosome Place opened its first store in Seoul’s Sinchon neighborhood in 2002 and is now one of South Korea’s largest café chains, with approximately 1,700 locations. The name reflects its pairing coffee with dessert. The South Korean chain is known for whole cakes including a spoonable icebox cake made by layering cookies and cream that was introduced in 2015, and a strawberry-and-chocolate fresh cream cake studded with crunchy chocolate balls. Other items on the menu are savory such as salads, paninis, and sandwiches. Twosome Place has not released a menu for the Alexandria space and there is no information yet if the shop will feature many of the same menu items as their other stores.
Twosome Place will become the third food-and-beverage tenants in the space, joining Life Alive Organic Café and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream.
