ALEXANDRIA, VA-Ironistic, a national agency, announces the highly anticipated 17th Annual RUN! GEEK! RUN! is set to take place on Sunday, September 29th, promising a day filled with fun, community spirit, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. This year, the event proudly supports Inova Peterson Life with Cancer as its 2024 beneficiary.

RUN! GEEK! RUN! is organized by Ironistic, a full-service digital agency based in Alexandria, Virginia. The event has become a beloved tradition, bringing together runners, walkers, volunteers, and sponsors to support a different Alexandria-based nonprofit each year. Last year’s event raised an impressive $48,000, and this year’s participation is already surpassing that amount, with registrant numbers more than double.

“It is hard to imagine an organization supporting a greater number of individuals, than Inova Peterson Life with Cancer,” shared Rita Foss, Race Director, Run! Geek! Run!. “Not only do they offer programs and support for cancer patients and survivors, they also include opportunities for caregivers. RUN! GEEK! RUN! is honored to have Inova Peterson Life with Cancer as our 2024 beneficiary.”

In line with the theme of this year’s beneficiary, RUN! GEEK! RUN! is offering a special Cancer to 5K run/walk 12-week training program, designed to encourage cancer survivors and their families to participate. Additionally, Cancer Can Rock, a nonprofit supporting musicians with cancer, will provide entertainment at the event’s turn-around point, adding to the day’s festivities.

Participants can choose between a 5K race and a 1-mile Fun Run, making the event accessible to all ages and fitness levels. Participants will receive a race shirt and the event’s signature geek glasses, while volunteers will be gifted branded gaiters as a token of appreciation. Additionally, 90 bobblehead trophies of the charming mascot, Eugene “The Geek”, will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers of various age categories.

“Peterson Life with Cancer at Inova Schar Cancer is honored to be this year’s Run! Geek! Run! Race beneficiary,” Jennifer Bires, Executive Director, Peterson Life with Cancer. “This event is a fun and healthy tradition in Alexandria, and the patients and families in our community who face a cancer diagnosis welcome and need your support. Life with Cancer offers hope and healing through an evidence-based, integrative approach that is personalized to each patient and family.

The support of Run! Geek! Run! and all those who participate are essential to keeping these programs free and accessible to all.”

RUN! GEEK! RUN! is made possible by the generous support of local sponsors, vendors, and volunteers. Their commitment to the event underscores the strong sense of community that defines Alexandria.
