Story and Photography by Eva Hartman

Alexandria, VA – 📷 Alexandria offers no shortage of beautiful places to photograph. Here are five favorites to explore this summer.

① JONES POINT LIGHTHOUSE

📍 Where: Jones Point Park

🌅 Best Time: Sunrise

🏛️ Alexandria’s historic lighthouse remains one of the city’s most iconic photo subjects.

📷 Photo Tip: Use the path leading toward the lighthouse to create depth and draw viewers into the image.

② JONES POINT BRIDGE

📍 Where: Beneath the Woodrow Wilson Bridge

🌤️ Best Time: Early Morning

🌉 The massive bridge structure creates striking lines, shadows, and perspective from below.

📷 Photo Tip: Position yourself near the center of the path and use the yellow line as a leading element.

③ JONES POINT COMMUNITY GARDEN

📍 Where: Jones Point Park

☀️ Best Time: Morning

🦋 Flowers provide the color, but bees and butterflies often become the real stars of the image.

📷 Photo Tip: Watch where pollinators land. They frequently return to the same blooms.

④ ORONOCO BAY PARK

📍 Where: Alexandria Waterfront

🌅 Best Time: 30 Minutes Before Sunrise

🌊 The wide river view and changing sky colors make this a favorite location for sunrise photography.

📷 Photo Tip: Allow the sky to dominate the composition and keep shooting after the sun appears.

Photo5 Robinson

⑤ ROBINSON LANDING WATERFRONT

📍 Where: Robinson Landing

🌅 Best Time: Sunrise

⚓ The docks create natural leading lines that guide the eye directly toward the horizon.

📷 Photo Tip: Turn on your phone’s grid feature to keep the horizon perfectly level.

📸 EVA’S FINAL THOUGHT

Summer’s later sunrises make it easier to get outside with a camera. Pick a spot, arrive early, and enjoy the view.

📸 Eva’s Camera Bag Tip

“Arrive 15 minutes earlier than you think you need to. The best light often comes before the sun itself appears.”

This should fit comfortably on a single Zebra page and gives your designer both the edited copy and the visual language/icons that match the Zebra 5 style you’ve decided to adopt.
