ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria residents will get a fresh look tonight at what comes next for Braddock West, the long-planned mixed-use development directly across from the Braddock Road Metro station.

CRC Companies will hold a community pre-construction meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, at the Charles Houston Recreation Center, 901 Wythe St. The meeting will take place in the multipurpose room.

According to the developer’s official project update, the team will provide an overview of the redevelopment, answer questions and update neighbors before vertical construction begins.

What Is Planned at Braddock West?

The project at 727 N. West St. was approved by Alexandria City Council in 2021. City planning documents describe a seven-story mixed-use building with 180 residential units, including 14 committed affordable units, ground-floor commercial and flex space, one level of underground parking and a publicly accessible plaza at North West and Wythe streets.

The City’s Braddock Metro Neighborhood and Braddock East Master Plans page lists the approved development special use permit for the site. The original City staff report said the project would also include new sidewalks and street trees, open space, a mid-block crossing toward Metro and contributions to affordable housing, public art, bikeshare and neighborhood funds.

The block has looked like a construction site for years. The former houses on the property were demolished in 2023, and the developer’s current project tracker shows off-site utility construction as complete while vertical construction remains the next major phase.

Why Tonight’s Meeting Matters

For residents who walk to Metro, live near North West, Wythe or Madison streets, or have watched the cleared site sit largely unchanged, tonight’s meeting is a chance to hear directly from the development team about timing and what construction activity will look like next.

The developer says Braddock West is intended to add housing and neighborhood-serving retail immediately beside Metrorail, with redesigned pedestrian areas connecting the station to the surrounding Braddock neighborhood.

Residents who cannot attend can submit questions or request project updates through the Braddock West community engagement portal.
