Alexandria Approved for $1.7 Million by FEMA To Hire Staff for Vaccination Sites

ALEXANDRIA, VA-The City of Alexandria requested and received approval for $1.7 million in new funding from FEMA. This will allow for the hiring of 112 temporary staff for future vaccination sites. The effort will be supported by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

The funding is available as a result of a recent presidential memorandum to extend federal COVID-19 support to states, where FEMA will fund certain vaccine distribution costs. Because of the anticipated vaccine supply increase in the coming weeks, the city will rely on short-term, temporary employees to serve as medical, administrative, and related support staff.

“Over the past year of COVID-19 response, the partnership between the City and the Health Department has been invaluable,” said Dr. Stephen Haering, Director of the Alexandria Health Department. “This vaccination staffing expansion is just another example of that close partnership and our collective commitment to ending this pandemic. By working together, we can ensure Alexandrians are vaccinated equitably and efficiently.”

The city is currently recruiting individuals to supplement existing efforts  Positions include vaccinators,, registrars, health screeners, and enrollment specialists.

An information session will take place on Saturday, March 20 to provide details about the available positions. More sessions may be added depending on demand. Participation is free, but registration is required to attend.
