Alexandria, VA – The warm, inviting atmosphere of Aldo’s Italian Kitchen provided the perfect backdrop for the March meeting of the Zebra Book Club. Over plates of steaming Italian delicacies and glasses of red wine, the group gathered to discuss the novel Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall, a masterclass in genre-blurring of mystery and romance.

The dinner discussion ignited thoughtful conversations among the members, who praised the novel’s evocative storytelling and richly developed characters. Long-time attendee Cindy Evans captured it perfectly: “The novel is beautifully written, helping readers understand how various choices have profoundly impacted all the characters.”

As the meal concluded, the group debated whether the heart of the story was romance or murder. Ultimately, they agreed that the Zebra Book Club continues to prove that in Alexandria, great food and gripping fiction are the ultimate pairing.
