Alexandria’s Carpenter’s Shelter Opens Second, 64-Bed Shelter on Mill Rd.; Now Hiring

ALEXANDRIA, VA-Carpenter’s Shelter is expanding. The nonprofit that supports people without a home and those transitioning from homelessness has signed a multi-year contract with the City of Alexandria to operate a second shelter. The 64-bed Alexandria Community Shelter (ACS) is located at 2355-A Mill Rd. The location will be fully staffed by December.

“We are honored to assume operations of the Alexandria Community Shelter,” said Carpenter’s Shelter Executive Director Shannon Steene. “It deepens our working relationship with the City of Alexandria and brings more opportunities for us to engage the community in solutions to homelessness. So many people support our work through their volunteer engagement and the Alexandria Community Shelter will allow us to do even more.”

With two locations, Carpenter’s Shelter will be the sole provider of emergency shelter in the city. Additionally, the Carpenter’s Shelter can provide the highest-quality care, improve services already in place, and meet the needs of people in need quicker.

Beginning Dec. 13, Carpenter’s Shelter will operate both its Winter Shelter and the Emergency Shelter. The organization is now hiring. To view and apply for open positions, click HERE.
