New York University historian and author Jeffrey T. Sammons presents the tragic and heroic tale of the extraordinary African American 369^th Infantry, whose soldiers distinguished themselves fighting as part of the French Army during WWI.  Professor Sammons will contextualize the highly charged and discriminatory social and political climate confronting the soldiers of the 369^th and discuss the groundwork they helped to lay for the long black freedom struggle and the modern Civil Rights Movement.

Professor Sammons’ book, co-authored with John H. Morrow, Jr., will be available for purchase. The book contains a comprehensive and in-depth study of the Harlem Rattlers with photos, notes, and biographical references.
