The Chamber ALX Celebrates Everyday Heroes at Community Champions Honors Event
Alexandria, VA – The Chamber ALX hosted its annual Community Champions Honors event last month, a community tradition celebrating the people whose dedication keeps the city running every day. From emergency response and public safety to healthcare, education, housing, utilities, and hospitality, this year’s honorees reflect the broad network of professionals who quietly power life in Alexandria.
The celebration highlighted individuals and teams who consistently go above and beyond their regular duties, often in high-pressure and life-saving situations. Among them were emergency responders recognized for rapid, coordinated action during critical incidents, including lifesaving intervention for a young child, complex multi-jurisdiction 911 coordination, and a large-scale fire department response to the mid-air collision over the Potomac River. These efforts underscore the teamwork, precision, and resilience required in moments when seconds matter most.
The program also honored the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office Project Lifesaver team, whose members are on call 24/7 to locate and safely return vulnerable residents living with conditions such as dementia or autism. Using specialized technology and trained search-and-rescue expertise, the team has repeatedly reunited individuals with their families—often in urgent and potentially dangerous circumstances.
Beyond public safety, the event recognized excellence across the broader workforce.
