ALEXANDRIA, VA – Sign up for swim lessons now! Goldfish Swim School is preparing for a phased opening and taking reservations for classes.

As families continue to look for physical activities to participate in, especially in warmer months, it’s essential to provide water survival skills training to young children and families who may be near bodies of water, including community, neighborhood and private pools.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), drowning is the leading cause of injury death in US children ages 1-4 years and the third leading cause of unintentional injury death in children and adolescents ages 5-19 years. While drowning is preventable, the sad reality is that even in the midst of COVID-19 drowning will take the lives of more children than the novel coronavirus. During this time of distractions, it’s critical to be aware of the risks of drowning at home in just inches of water or at the beach.

Goldfish Swim School believes that your swimmers deserve to be in the best hands at all times, which is why the instructors undergo an extensive hiring process and comprehensive training period. In addition, classes are kept small and ensure a max student-to-teacher ratio of 4:1. (Photo: Goldfish Swim School)

The CDC states that “there is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, or water playgrounds. Additionally, proper operation of these aquatic venues and disinfection of the water should inactivate the virus.” A UV sanitation system is an additional safety measure in place at the Goldfish Swim School facilities in Alexandria, Falls Church and Reston, Virginia.

Following Virginia’s state and local guidance for the phased openings, Goldfish Swim School will announce its hours, lesson offerings and safety guidelines as soon as possible.

“We have always been committed to the safety of our students and staff and will continue to provide a safe and professional environment for everyone, while also providing lifesaving skills,” says Gina Bewersdorf, M.D., who, along with her husband Ryan Bewersdorf, operate the three locations in Northern Virginia (Alexandria, Falls Church and Reston).
