Alexandria, VA – The Twig, which is the Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital, recently announced a new fundraising campaign “Together We Ignite Giving,” which encourages companies and organizations to make a monetary donation to The Twig in support of Inova Alexandria Hospital and the Alexandria community (www.thetwig/donate).

“This campaign provides local businesses, corporations and organizations an opportunity to make donations during the season of giving; and at a time when additional funds are needed to support our local hospital. Twig has an impressive history of successful fundraising for Inova Alexandria Hospital and wants to expand its efforts through forging partnerships in the Alexandria community” says Anita Carson, Twig Fundraising Chair.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Twig’s major fundraising efforts have suffered. The 78th annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour, held in Old Town every September, was cancelled. Also, The Twig Thrift Shop was closed in March and is now operating on a limited schedule; while observing precautions for the health and safety of their volunteers and customers.

In May 2020 The Twig made a $100,000 contribution to the Inova Covid-19 Emergency Preparedness Fund which helped provide additional staffing, personal protection equipment for our front line heroes, specialized equipment for the unique needs of COVID-19 patients, increased services for homebound families, and other resources to address the rapidly-changing situation.

Since its founding in 1933, The Twig has donated over $4 million dollars to the hospital for a variety of projects and provides an annual Nursing Scholarship to advance a member of the nursing staff’s nursing career. In addition to supporting the hospital The Twig also provides clothing to the Lazarus Program at Christ Church and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, the Carpenter’s Shelter, Vietnam Veterans and Central Union Mission.
