Best Potato Salad I Ever Had

By Mary Wadland

Let me start by saying I can usually take or leave potato salad. People bring it to picnics or family gatherings, or it is offered as a side to my fried chicken or barbecued rib takeout, but as a rule, my interaction with it as a food staple is minimal.

But that was before I tried THIS potato salad. It is so good, I have to write about it. It did not seem right to keep this discovery to myself, so for the first time in my 30-year newspaper career, I am almost stopping the presses to make sure this little food review makes the issue.

First of all, it is made locally and until it gets a shot on “Shark Tank” or someplace, you need to contact the cook herself. Believe me, there will probably be a day you say, “I had that before it got famous!” It is an old family recipe that Crystal City receptionist Renetta Jones has been making for decades. People tell her all the time, “You should sell that at Giant or Harris Teeter or Trader Joes!”

The potatoes are creamy and there is a “bite” to it, and this non-potato salad eating person had two bites and then proceeded to eat an entire quart right out of the Tupperware container. It’s addictive and you’ll want to order it again and again.

I am printing a flyer Renetta gives her friends.  I think you should try some and take it to your next office party or holiday gathering. But order ASAP, because she is still just a small-town cook, working in her own kitchen, and this stuff needs to be served fresh.  Good luck and I hope you get some before she has to stop taking orders!!
