ALEXANDRIA, VA-United Way Worldwide in Alexandria is helping students stay safe and healthy. Earlier today, it announced that America’s Mask Challenge – a coalition led by United Way, Business Roundtable, and CDC Foundation – has distributed 28 million masks to schools in all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Launched last December, its aim is to speed up mask delivery to Title I schools.

“United Way is proud to lead this coalition of business leaders to help support America’s school teachers and provide critical resources so they can safely continue educating our nation’s students and rebuilding our school communities in the wake of COVID-19,” said Suzanne McCormick, U.S. President, United Way Worldwide. “United Way believes that protecting vulnerable groups in society, starting with our children and their educators, is not just a moral imperative, it is also practical.”

By distributing the masks, United Way hopes that some of the pressure and stress that teachers are experiencing is alleviated.

Funds and masks have been donated by companies such as Progressive Insurance, Hanes Brands, Inc., and Nasdaq.
