ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Del Ray Citizens Association is urging interested parties to please join the land use committee on Tuesday, May 30 at 7:30 PM via Zoom to discuss the planned changes to Simpson Park.

Bethany Znidersic from the city will join the meeting to present a Powerpoint (see here) on the proposed changes to the baseball field and dog park, which include installing new bleachers and synthetic turf to the baseball field, improved hardscape paths, new and additional landscaping and an expanded parking lot.  This project does not include the soccer field surface which was reviewed separately.

DRCA members will present research on the proposed surface material and other concerns. Read background research here.

The LUC will then draft a letter to the city relaying the position of the DRCA LUC. Note that there will not be a full membership vote, as the planning commission meeting to discuss the proposal is scheduled for 6/6, before DRCA’s next regular meeting. This special LUC meeting is the opportunity for DRCA members to provide input to the city under DRCA’s cover.
