Tickets Available: CAC Gala to Honor Brooke Curran and Mary Hale, Local Heroes to Alexandria Kids

Fundraiser at Old Dominion Boat Club Benefits Center for Alexandria’s Children (CAC)

ALEXANDRIA, VA – On Thursday, February 27, two of Alexandria’s philanthropic heroes will be honored at the 11th Annual CAC Gala, benefiting the Center for Alexandria’s Children, the City’s one safe place for the prevention, investigation and treatment of child abuse.

Honorees Give Back to Alexandria Children

Mary Hale

Mary Hale, Inova Health System FACT Director, will receive The Outstanding Dedication to Alexandria’s Children Award for her commitment to the safety and well-being of Alexandria’s children.  Ms. Hale joined the Inova team in 2016 and in four years increased staffing and expanded forensic services in northern Virginia.

For more than 20 years, Ms. Hale has provided advocacy and crisis intervention services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in a variety of settings, including the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s office in Ohio.  She worked as an advocate for the US Army’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program (SAPR) from the program’s beginning, and later with the National Guard Bureau to ensure victim services across all 50 states and territories.

Brooke Sydnor Curran, Founder and CEO of RunningBrooke, will receive The Champion for Children Award for her dedication to the empowerment and wellness of Alexandria’s children and families.  An avid runner, Ms. Curran founded RunningBrooke in 2009 to support the integration of creative and sustainable movement practices and programs into Alexandria’s schools.  RunningBrooke aims to “spark a movement revolution” by providing Move2Learn teacher trainings and professional development, ACPS movement challenges and grants, and playground renovations across the City.  In 2019, Ms. Curran was honored as a Living Legend of Alexandria for her exemplary and lasting impact on the community.

Event and Ticket Details       

The #famous CAC Gala is Thursday, February 27, 7 to 10 p.m. at Old Dominion Boat Club, 200 Strand Street, and features an evening of live music by Spoken in Music, cocktail buffet, an auction and raffle prizes, along with other opportunities to support the Center’s critical programs that build strong families and keep children safe in the City of Alexandria. About the CAC

The Center supports abused children on their path to healing, while promoting strong, stable families.  It serves more than 1,000 Alexandria children and families annually. Its Learn & Play Groups for children ages 0-5 years utilizes a curriculum designed to circumvent abuse by helping parents, children and caregivers build connections within the community. Mary Wadland

Mary Wadland is the Publisher and Editor in Chief of The Zebra Press, founded by her in 2010. Originally from Delray Beach, Florida, Mary is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hollins College in Roanoke, VA and has lived and worked in the Alexandria publishing community since 1987.
