Alexandrians Urged Not to Delay Emergency Medical Treatment

ALEXANDRIA, VA – In recent months, because of fear and anxiety over the coronavirus, there has been an alarming trend throughout the country of people who need but do not receive medical care.

The Alexandria Health Department shared a June 22 report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control on the matter.

It indicates that during the first 10 weeks of the pandemic, there was a 23 percent decrease in visits for heart attacks, a 20 percent decrease for strokes, and a 10 percent decrease for uncontrolled high blood sugar.

The report shows a decrease of visits in all age groups. AHD reminds residents that if you start to experience symptoms of a life-threatening condition such as chest pain or shortness of breath, call 911 immediately.

Emergency rooms are taking the necessary precautions to treat everyone that needs help. If you need to go to the hospital, going is a smart move and could save your life.
