ALEXANDRIA, VA – It is time for nominations from Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) families for Virginia’s Most Outstanding Crossing Guard of 2022. The Virginia Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS) wants to celebrate crossing guards who make a difference in our communities as they brave the rain, snow and freezing temperatures to keep our children safe on the way to and from school.

In celebration of Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on Feb. 8, 2023, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) honors a select few crossing guards for their dedication to student safety. Nominate your school’s crossing guard online by sharing why they are outstanding. Please include a photo or two, along with a detailed description of your crossing guard’s efforts in your application.

All nominees are sent letters of appreciation with the most compelling nominees posted on the SRTS website as one of Virginia’s Most Outstanding Crossing Guards of 2022. Winners receive a certificate and small gift. Last year, ACPS was honored to celebrate Lyles Crouch Traditional Academy’s Cora Reed, who was named as one of Virginia’s Most Outstanding Crossing Guard of 2021. Please make sure to submit your nomination by Fri., Jan. 20, 2023.
