Alexandria Library Has New Thermal Imaging Cameras to Share — Find Home Air Leaks
ALEXANDRA, VA — Alexandria residents can now reserve thermal imaging cameras from any branch of the Alexandria Library. The City of Alexandria is making these cameras available as part of the Eco-City Alexandria initiative. Eco-City Alexandria is a holistic strategic effort to be a sustainable community. The Eco-City Charter was adopted in 2008 and the Environmental Action Plan has guided the implementation of the City’s environmental programming since 2009.
According to Library Director, Rose Dawson, “We are proud of our latest partnership with Eco-City. Lending thermal cameras is a wonderful way to make technology accessible to residents, while helping individuals save money and have a positive environmental impact.
Residents can use the cameras to inspect their home or business. The devices connect to your Apple or Android smartphone and allow you to find air leaks and insulation gaps in your home so that you may make it more energy efficient. By implementing weatherization improvements, residents can make their home a more comfortable place to live while reducing utility bills. ENERGY STAR® estimates that air sealing and insulation improvements can save an average of 17% on heating and cooling costs for homes in our area.
Cameras can be requested just like a book through the library catalog, and will be delivered to your local library branch for pick up. They have a 14 day lending period, and accrue a late fee of $2.00 per day. To learn more, contact your local branch library.
