ALEXANDRIA, VA-Alexandria Archaeology has created a new way for residents and visitors to discover the city’s history. An interactive online map, Historical Sign Finder, allows users to search by location for historical markers within Alexandria.

The city calls the map anevolving repository  for the research and stories about people and places in the past and will be updated as new historical signs are installed.”

At launch, the map has 150 signs to explore. These include markers at the Alexandria Heritage Trail, the African American Waterfront Heritage Trails, and the King Street Corridor.

The sign finder can be found HERE.  How does it work? You can either click on an image at the bottom of your screen (which can be enlarged by clicking on the full-screen symbol) or search for a specific address.

The map was created through Alexandria Archaeology’s partnership with the city’s Information Technology Services and the GIS Office.
