ALEXANDRIA, VA — Bagpipes, Irish dancers, and a sea of green will once again fill the streets of Old Town when the Ballyshaners host their 43rd Annual Alexandria St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 7, 2026 — one of the region’s longest-running and most beloved celebrations.

As the DC region’s first St. Patrick’s Day parade, the Alexandria tradition has welcomed generations of families and visitors for a festive kickoff to the season, and organizers say this year brings an exciting update: a new parade route designed in collaboration with the City of Alexandria and the Old Town community.

“This parade is truly a celebration of Alexandria’s community spirit,” parade organizers said. “From longtime residents to first-time visitors, we love seeing everyone come together to celebrate Irish heritage and local tradition.”

New Parade Route, Same Beloved Tradition

Parade day festivities will begin at 12:00 noon, led by local dignitaries, with the main parade stepping off at 12:30 p.m.

The 2026 parade route will begin at Wolfe Street and St. Asaph Street, continuing through Old Town Alexandria, bringing pipe bands, Irish dancers, community organizations, and entertainers through the heart of the city.

“This updated route allows more of Old Town to be part of the celebration while maintaining the charm and accessibility people expect from Alexandria’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade,” organizers said.

Where to Watch

A grandstand will be located at King and Pitt Streets, offering premium viewing for spectators. Additional recommended viewing areas include:

  • St. Asaph Street

  • Pitt Street, both north and south of King Street

Spectators are encouraged to arrive early to secure the best viewing spots, as thousands of participants and onlookers are expected.

Getting There: Go Metro

With large crowds anticipated, parade-goers are strongly encouraged to use public transportation. The closest Metro stop is King Street–Old Town Metro Station on the Blue and Yellow Lines, followed by an easy 10-minute walk down King Street to the parade route.

“Using Metro helps everyone enjoy the day safely and keeps Old Town moving,” organizers noted.

Free and Open to All

All parade events are free and open to the public, making it one of the most accessible St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the region. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to come early, enjoy Old Town, and make a full day of the festivities.
