ALEXANDRIA, VA-On the evening of June 6, the Alexandria City School Board voted to adopt the Combined Funds Budget for Fiscal Year 2025, totaling $378.2 million, and the FY 2025-2034 Capital Improvement Program Budget, totaling $379.5 million. The Zebra Press last reported on budget progress in February. The adoption takes into account adjustments recommended by the Board and Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt.

“The adoption of the Final FY 2025 Combined Funds Budget allows the division to continue our focus and efforts on recruitment and retention, aiding in maintaining a diverse and talented workforce to educate our future,” said Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt. “ I am extremely appreciative of the collaboration of our financial services team, division staff, City Council and the Alexandria City School Board, for their work, dedication to our students and shared vision for a prosperous future.”

City Council adopted its FY 2025 budget for Alexandria May 1.

The final Combined Funds Budget prioritizes staff compensation and increasing the number of staff throughout the ACPS system. For instance, it provides teachers with step increases for those eligible, a market rate adjustment of two percent, and higher wage rates for hourly and casual employees.  Adressing other concerns, it provides funding for technology upgrades to mitigate cyber-security threats, as well as instructional needs. Within the budget, there is also funding to support the opening of the new Minnie Howard Campus and the creation of a middle school athletic program.

The CIP Budget includes funding for the modernization of the school system’s transportation facility, new buildings for George Mason and Cora Kelly, playground maintenance, and a renovation of 1701 N. Beauregard St site.
