The Twig Announces 82nd Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour
ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Twig, the Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital will host the 82nd Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.
This tour offers a unique opportunity to take a peek inside some of Old Town Alexandria’s beautiful historic homes. This year’s tour will feature 6 homes, some of Alexandra’s finest, and includes a bonus tour of Gatsby’s Tavern. The Historic Alexandria Homes Tour is a ticketed tour with the proceeds benefiting Inova Alexandria Hospital.
In one historic home, Continental Army Commander-in-Chief George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette, whose relationship was that of father and adopted son, are reunited through the display of the homeowner’s collection of busts and portraits of the two close friends. Another Italianate beauty of a home displays a cozy trompe l’oeil fireplace mural painted by international artist Sabrina Rupprecht, who also painted the history mural at the 1799 Restaurant.
In June 2024, The Twig presented Inova Alexandria Hospital with a $300,000 donation, the second installment of a half million-dollar pledge The Twig had committed to providing over two years. The funds will be used for upgrading the hospital’s Trauma Program. In addition to completing the pledge, The Twig awarded 3 scholarships of $5,000 each to 3 nurses at Inova Alexandria Hospital.
Founded by a group of 24 women in Alexandria, Virginia, dedicated to providing financial support for Inova Alexandria Hospital, The Twig is celebrated its 91st Anniversary last year, and has raised over $5 million for the hospital since 1923. In addition to hosting the popular Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour, the all-volunteer organization operates a highly successful Thrift Shop located at 106 N. Columbus Street.
