Public Invited: Alexandria Health Department Hosts Event for Community-Wide Health Assessment
ALEXANDRIA, VA-This year, the Alexandria Health Department conducts a community-wide health assessment to determine the health concerns of residents and how to better meet their needs. The year-long process is meant to make the city healthier for everyone.
AHD is hosting a public event at Patrick Henry Rec Center (4753 Taney Ave.) to kick off the 2024 assessment period Tuesday, Oct. 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. There will be indoor and outdoor activities for children ages four and older.
The event announcement, in part, reads:
All Alexandrians must have the opportunity to thrive. Community conditions, like structural racism and all forms of discrimination, along with neighborhood factors such as housing, parks, and grocery stores impact Alexandrians’ health. Health data reflects these impacts, but the data alone does not tell the full story. This community assessment is your chance to weigh in on what health issues you and your neighbors experience, and what matters most. Your voice, combined with data analysis, will help Alexandria Health Department identify the city’s top health issues and understand their causes.
People who attend will learn about how the assessment is completed, the impact it will have, and how they can take part. Those interested are asked to RSVP by registering online or calling 703-244-5654. Assessment results will inform the next Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). The last assessment was completed in 2019 and led to the 2020-2025 CHIP. To review the plan, click HERE.
Interested in getting involved in the DCHS Children and Youth Community Plan and/or ACPS’ 2025 Strategic Plan? The event serves as an opportunity to learn about them too.
Editor’s note: This event has been rescheduled to Oct. 1, according to an Aug. 23 Alexandria eNews bulletin.
